UK hoteliers saw visitor numbers decline in September and, as a result of some softening in demand, room rates have declined as the fallout from the turmoil in the markets affected business travel, according to preliminary monthly figures released today by PKF Hotel Consultancy Services.
Hotels in Singapore reported spectacular results over the weekend of the inaugural SingTel Singapore Formula 1 Grand Prix. A review of hotel performance by Deloitte, the business advisory firm, shows that revenue per available room (revPAR) on the final day of the event rose 376.4% to US$570. (more…)
KOP Capital Pte Ltd recently acquired a 50% stake in Stein Group International, parent company for one of the fastest growing portfolios of integrated companies in the luxury travel and leisure sector. This investment, worth US$250 million, marks the local real estate company’s foray into the global property arena, reaching across Europe and North America. With KOP Capital’s participation, Stein Group International will extend its brands into Asia by 2010, including Singapore, China, Indonesia and Thailand.
A management agreement to build China’s first seven-star hotel was signed over the weekend, Beijing Times reports.
China’s real-estate company Antaeus Group and the Canadian company Fairmont Hotels and Resorts, signed the agreement to build the hotel in Sanya, a tourism hotspot in southern China’s Hainan Province. (more…)
Fairmont Hotels & Resorts has announced a new property, Fairmont Marrakech, Morocco, slated to open in 2011. Building on its growing presence in Europe, Africa and the Middle East, the resort will join other hotels in the region including Fairmont Zanzibar, Tanzania; Fairmont Towers Heliopolis, Cairo; Fairmont Mara Safari Club, Kenya and London’s Savoy, reopening in 2009 following an extensive restoration.
Originally from Montana USA, Lyle Barker worked in the family Baking business and developed a passion for cooking with particular expertise in desserts and baking. His formal qualifications came from his apprenticeship with Don Doig, a disciple of Julia Childs. (more…)
