Recruitment- Managing future human resources-managing the Stars of the future

Academic qualifications, professional skills, a track record in leading change to increase shareholder value and business profits; those and more are now the keywords when looking for a high end Executive to manage a 5 star property in the major business centre or resort destinations of the world.

Speaking a number of languages fluently is as much essential as the international understanding of business and worldwide trends in the travel and hospitality industry. Today’s Hotel Manager needs to understand all that; he is a business manager and public relations star, a marketing genius and has brilliant financial and business acumen. Where does one find the perfect individual that matches the hotel and brings with him the experience and social background required for these almost ‘celebrity- like’ status positions?

Executive Recruitment has long been used by multi-nationals, business owners, even more in today’s business environment. It is crucial to finding the right candidate for the right job. In today’s recruitment environment the recruitment consultant has to have an understanding of the international market, be interested in multi-culturalism and lived and experienced first hand the world of the international hospitality industry.

Today’s recruiter is a Manager to his “stars”, developing new talent, promoting young, up and coming talent and providing options for their career development.

On the other end of the spectrum the employer today cannot be successful without the services of a solid recruiter who has the resources to provide high level candidates.

Candidates at the very top level are only as good as their recruitment agency. Understanding the candidate, his needs, capabilities and aptitude are just some of the issues a recruiter should be familiar with. A candidate is a valuable asset and as such needs to be managed, his success in turn relates to our success. Trust and openness is the key to achieve this.

We should consider candidates our “stars” and that they require a manager, ultimately linking to their personal growth and with it the financial rewards.

The days when recruiters were sending endless numbers of CV’s to clients are over, today’s time is far more valuable and the client wants to see the candidate that best matches best his property from a selection of three maybe five profiles rather than having to read through an endless pile of paper work.

Presentation of the candidate résumé to the client is half of the success in getting the candidate to the interview stage.    Much has been said and written of professional presentations and CV’s; little has changed over the years. CV’s are still cluttered, without structure or too elaborate missing on the vital points. While video presentations are not yet common practice, video links via Internet are the future of the interview process, providing the client an excellent picture of the candidate in a real life situation.

It all comes down to managing our resources and the way we market them in order to be successful.

In the 21st century recruitment professionals need to have the knowledge of a business owner, the mind of a psychologist and most of all the gift of identifying and attracting the best and most talented professionals, developing them into the future managers that will shape the hospitality industry.

The hospitality industry has gone through some remarkable changes in the past two decades and will continue to do so in the future. Our Managers need to adapt to those changes and have the capabilities to manage those changes. We as recruitment consultants are here to assist in this and help develop the business and quality management skills by nurturing their talent and developing their potential.

Credibility is the reward for our efforts and the understanding of our clients’ needs ensuring confidence in our services

Attracting the best in the business, developing and presenting them in a way that reflects their personal style and skills should be the beginning of every good relationship between a candidate and recruiter.Gaining the trust of his client is the result of the recruiter’s in-depth understanding of his needs and the candidate’s capabilities.

Achieving stardom is up to the candidate through their performance but the recruiter or agent should have the satisfaction that he has paved the way to achieve that by managing his star.

Let’s not forget there is a little Hollywood in all of us and in today’s world the recruiter is really that of a Manager of the future Stars.
