Singapore No 2 Convention City

Singapore ranked second on the list of the world’s top convention cities, below Vienna but above Barcelona. This is the second consecutive year the city has received this accolade. Latest figures from the Singapore Tourism Board (STB) show that the segment of travel business known as BTMICE (Business travel, meetings, incentive travel, conventions and exhibitions) accounted for approximately 30 per cent of total tourism receipts of US$6.9 billion in 2005. Vienna hosted 129 conventions followed by 125 in Singapore and 116 in Barcelona. Other Asian cities on the top-10 list include Hong Kong (95 conventions) and Seoul (77). In terms of country rankings, the US tops the list with 376 conventions followed by 320 in Germany and 275 in Spain. STB says it will launch a marketing campaign in the second half of this year targeting key markets for BTMICE business.
